I haven't been here in ages. Shame on me. However, I have been busy with the out of work gig and digging on my new cat, Chance. Oh, she's so dreamy. Himalayan Dollface I believe and quite the pretty thing. Oh, alright. Here's a picture!
Pets fill this void in our lives that's a bit hard to explain. They're like children that you never have to send to college or lecture to about drugs and smoking, Ok, maybe nothing at all like having kids. They're creatures that give you love and affection along with an occasional swipe of claws, but you don't care because they're so damn cute afterwards. And they really didn't mean to draw blood - sometimes they're just playing and they forget that you're not one of them.
It's a bond like no other. Whether you have a dog, a cat or a Rattus Norvegicus, who can deny that coming home to a furry little being who is genuinely happy to see you is just the greatest feeling? Of course, Chance wasn't quite the loving kitty she is now. The first few days we had to move slowly around her and let her come to us. I kept forgetting that she was a different cat than our last one and so couldn't do the things I was used to with her, like petting her belly. She immediately reminded me with a few swats of her talons, so I quickly learned to let her do things at her own pace. Eventually, she let me pick her up and now she follows me around the house like a puppy. The key was to take things slow, like any relationship.
So there's one thing to learn from a new pet. Take it slow, and watch a beautiful friendship blossom. There's no hurry when it comes to this kind of love.
