Halfway Through 40

Well, actually a little closer to the end of it. And I think I need to have more pictures on my blog. I rather like the photo of the stone in someone's hand. Very...illustrative?

Some observations so far. After the panic of the first few months came a calm acceptance. Certain areas of my life that I thought were ending forever are, in fact, returning from their hiatus. Other things are going their merry way for a while, and while they're gone I'll tend to other things that have been neglected. It's all good, as they say.

Today I feel a tranquility I haven't felt in years, if ever. I didn't think it was possible, but I definitely feel that I deserve it. I make a point of moving slower, more methodically, and breathing when I start to get overwhelmed. Maybe I'm finally getting it, or maybe I'm just tired of how things used to be. Or maybe I'm finally letting go of the things that weighed me down so that I can swim up to the surface and get some air. If that's the case, I'll imagine myself filling my lungs and feeling the wind on my wet face, and with a strength I never knew I had, I will swim to shore and start living my life for real.
